ARTS & CRAFTS

Art projects are incorporated into our curriculum to add excitement to the upcoming holidays and Mitzvot. Our projects will have Jewish holiday and Mitzvah themes and will add a taste of Jewish life to your home. The younger students will be doing art more often than the older grades.

COMMUNICATION

We strongly encourage close communication between the school staff and parents. We are deeply concerned about the progress of each individual student, and would be more than willing to spend time discussing your child’s progress with you. Every week, your child’s teacher places a short newsletter with the basic information of what was learned that day in the classroom. This way, you can be kept abreast as to what the children are learning.

OUR TEAM

All of our teachers are warm and sensitive who endeavor to help every child reach his/her potential. They are all fluent in Hebrew and experienced in teaching. They are creative, fun and passionate about Judaism, so they are truly able to pass on their excitement for our traditions and Holidays.

CURRENT EVENTS AND ISRAEL

The older students of Chabad Hebrew School will follow any current event concerning Jewish issues and Israel. Students are encouraged to bring in newspaper clippings, and discussions will follow, keeping our students well informed of the world and its relationship to the Jewish people.

BAR & BAT MITZVAH

As the students near the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah, they need more training in Judaism. Boys need to be trained to read from the Torah. Since each boy's Torah portion is different, each child needs individual training. Rabbi Vorovitch will help arrange that training whether or not you choose to do your Bar Mitzvah in our Shul.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Chabad Hebrew School will offer a variety of extra curricular activities such as special guests, Shabbatons, field trips, contests, etc. These events will allow our students to experience Judaism in its entirety, both in and out of the classroom. More details will follow once the school year begins.

Aleph Bet

Chabad Hebrew School is implementing the Aleph Champ Reading Program. Based on the martial arts philosophy of colour-coded levels and testing, the Aleph Champ program provides motivation and inspiration for students to succeed at their own pace. Children begin with the white level, practicing the first half of the aleph-bet and move through the ten levels, ending with reading fluently. Below, please find the break-down of the levels so you can see your child’s progress. Children will receive an Aleph Champ home kit so they can practice their level at home, and move ahead. Home kit items are to be returned to the school as the child moves ahead and are replaced with the next level items. Children will be tested three times a year and can move up a level at that time. They receive three stripes per level, to keep them motivated between testing times. Award ceremonies take place three times during the year, as is posted in the school calendar.

Incentive Program

All children will receive Hebrew School dollars for good behaviour, homework completion, contests, etc. The school dollars can be traded in at recess time for kosher goodies or cute prizes. This exciting program will allow children to get involved in all types of contests and fun activities and be rewarded for it in the way they choose! (Also, if they are hungry during recess for more than the regular snack, they can cash in their dollars for a snack!) Look out for some great prizes!
